Grammys Bling: Who Styled it Right?

The Grammys — along with pretty much any other awards show involving celebrities — are famous for being a highly publicized hub of fashion do’s, fashion don’ts, and fashion what-were-you-even-thinkings. This year was no exception, as the good, the bad and the ugly of ball gowns were paraded down the red carpet at the 54th Annual Grammys. Oh, and the night might have been about music at some point, too.

Here are the most notable dresses — or in some cases, the lack thereof:

FERGIE

Let’s just get this one out of the way. Aside form the Halloween-esque color combo, this get-up looks like a spraypainted lace tablecloth. Think you “def” forgot the lining on this one, Fergie.

RIHANNA

She kept it pretty straightforward with the dress — a sleek black gown is a go-to staple for any high-fashion event. But the 1980s hair? Could it be a subtle tribute to Whitney Houston? Maybe so, but Rihanna might be better off sticking to the usual variations on her naturally dark hair.

ADELE

Not only did Adele clean up in the awards department, she did so while looking classy. This simple, shimmery black gown offset with red lips is a wonderfully understated way to make a big splash. Her second outfit, later in the night, was black as well with a fun, polka-dotted element.

NICKI MINAJ

First of all, there’s the whole red-riding hood vibe happening with this one. But then there was also her male escort, who came dressed as the Pope. We all have our own definitions of “arm candy,” but…really, Nicki?

JESSIE J

Her sleek, metallic gown could go one of two ways. One one hand, it could be taken as a sassy and funky gown that pays homage to disco in a dazzling way. And yet, there’s that glaring Jetsons undertone that’s difficult to ignore.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD

This country star kept it simple and brilliant with her white, sequined gown. Who said you can’t wear white after Labor Day?

LADY GAGA

A fashion post wouldn’t be a fashion post without a space for Lady Gaga. Her black, leather-and-fishnet ensemble bore a definite resemblance to something you’d expect to see Cat Woman out and about in. To her credit though, the tight netting across her face made it more difficult to discern if she truly didn’t know the words when she was singing along with The Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations” performance. No comment on the gold sceptre.
