Country designs, tough outerwear and trench coats are the trademark of Burberry – the renowned British luxury fashion house. The lineage brand was kick started in 1856 by Thomas Burberry. The brand has grown into a thriving and hip label today. It latest Prorsum collection for 2012 and 2013 was unveiled recently. Here’s the sizzling hot scoop on what sashayed in and out at the show.

Opening at the ramp

The Burberry Prorsum 2012 put on an exhibit of chic clothing and accessories this season. Held at the Hyde Park in London, the show was attended by a crowd of nearly 500. Drama was at its peak at this parade directed by Christopher Bailey. A flock of metal studded umbrellas, strapped onto the models sporting hardy rainy wear, mobbed the stage. Traditional cotton gabardine, tweed wool, mac fabric and rich velvet with occasional floral, owl patterns or animal prints showered the catwalk.

A thundering rumble accompanied by a downpour gave the show a really theatrical fiber, and the scenic display came to a crescendo when Cara Delevingne walked in wearing the outstanding plum coat. The show was attended by the likes of Kate Bosworth, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Clémence Poesy, Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo and Alexandra Roach among others.

Style in gist

Country wear with a twist was the core theme of the collection as the outfits had a trim and dapper facade. So, the brand stood by its roots whilst giving the clothes a chic semblance, which will be well liked by trendy urbane populace. Rugged and tough looking pieces rambled onstage. Weighty trimmings like chunky collars, frilly ruffles and belted bows that keep you warm were used liberally.

The clothes will suit not just waif thin figures but also women with plus sized bodies as nipped-in waists along with exaggerated hips was the mainstay of the collection. Panels with contrasting patterns were used to give outfits a textured look. Button down frontals with tight fitting bottoms looked rather prim. The colors were muted and sophisticated perfect for a toned down look preferred by mature women. The entire line up looked heavy-set due to the generous use of belts, jackets, coats and caps.

Lowdown on the collection

The hues were either warm and deep or bright but subdued. Tints like camel, ginger wood, honey, caramel were picked in the neutral palette while navy, burgundy, hot pink, chartreuse yellow, laurel green and blackcurrant gave the line up a flush of color. Trench coats were a common sight. Other cozy selections were silk bombers, tweed riding jackets and blanket coats. Statement accessories like caps, jackets, black studded leather gloves and clutches punched up outfits.

The body hugging skirts created quite a few ripples. Men’s trousers were slim and sleek. The country feel came through with the flared riding and ruffled skirts that had a well fitted stitch. While, the skirts with pockets on the sides, dresses nipped at the waist, fleecy kilts paired with warm jackets and billowy ones with bands running across had an uptight vibe.

Dresses, skirts and trousers layered for cozy comfort were showcased on the ramp. Although quite trendy, the outfits had a hardy appeal to hold out in rainy and breezy conditions.
