As the weather starts to get warmer, the urge to get outside and enjoying the sun can be overwhelming. Before you race out into the harsh glare, you must give a little thought to your skin. The summer can take a serious toll on our skin, and failing to look after it leaves you exposed to dryness, sunburn, itching, or even infections. If you want to glow all summer, protecting your skin is vital. It doesn’t take long to give your skin a little summer TLC.
Simply follow these tips and you’ll look as good at the end of the summer as you do when you first step outside on the first warm day of the year.
In This Post:
1. Skin Exfoliating
This is something that you should always do, but certainly more so in the hotter months. If you don’t get rid of the dead skin cells that we all have then you will end up with dry looking skin that just looks dull. You can use all of the moisturisers in the world, but if you don’t exfoliate then you’re simply wasting your moisturiser. Use specialist facial exfoliators for your face, and a good body scrub for the rest of you. Do this 2-3 times a week and your skin will love you for it.
Never underestimate the need for sunscreen, and don’t bother digging out last summer’s unused bottle either. Sunscreen doesn’t last as long as many people think, and old sunscreen will not protect your skin. Buy a new bottle of sunscreen every year and make sure that it has UVA and UVB protection. Sunscreen isn’t a one-and-done application either. Remember to top up every few hours.
3. Vitamin A
Vitamin A is essential for a lot of reasons, but it’s often overlooked when it comes to having healthy skin. If you want to make sure that your skin has a good, healthy glow then you need to ensure that you are getting all of the vitamin A that you can. There are a lot of ways to do this depending on what you’re trying to do, but for skin protection it’s smart to opt for retinaldehyde skin care products that you can apply directly to your body. This guarantees that you get the vitamin A that you need, where you need it.
4. Water (and then more water)
The more water you drink, the more hydrated your skin will be. Drinking plenty of water every day is, of course, always important, but if you’re working to make your skin look and feel better then it should be a priority. Get used to drinking around eight cups of water every day. Not only will this make your skin look younger, but it will also give you that clean glow that you’re aiming for. It will also help to clear out any toxins in your body, and that’s always a good thing for your skin.
5. Miss the Make-Up
You don’t have to throw all of your make-up away in the summer, but it’s best to avoid overuse. When it’s hot outside, wear as little make-up as possible and your skin will reward you with that natural look. If the thought of leaving the house without make-up scares you, then stick to a light foundation and a lip balm that comes with an SPF of at least 15.
Dedicating a little time each day to your skin can transform the way that you look and feel when the sun is shining and the beach is calling. Learn a little more about how your skin can look its best and you’ll be able to maintain that healthy glow all year round.
