Have you ever found yourself flipping through a magazine or channels on your television and pausing to look at a 40-and-over celebrity as you ask yourself (sometimes out loud), “Now, how do they stay looking so young?”
Although the world of Hollywood beauty is reportedly filled to cosmetic surgery, Botox shots and other “tricks of the trade”, you might be surprised to know that some people actually do take the natural route by consulting with Mother Nature about what they can do to (successfully) fight the aging process.
Do you want to know what time has revealed to some of them when it comes to how to stay looking as young as they feel? Check out these five tips below:
Naomi Watts (43). Although she is well into her 40s, actress Naomi Watts brings new meaning to “aging gracefully” thanks to one daily ritual and another pampering habit. She makes it a point to get plenty of water every single day and to schedule a facial every 6-8 weeks. Water helps to detoxify the skin and facials are great for improving the skin’s elasticity as well as increasing blood circulation.
Julie Bowen (42). This Modern Family star has a pretty simple solution to fighting the years. Most of us have heard that exercise is good for holding back the hands of time, and Bowen agrees. Her exercise of choice is cardio, by way of running. According to her, one of the best things about it is that you can get your heart rate up by running in place virtually anywhere at any time, so there are definitely no excuses about not being able to get to the gym.
Oprah Winfrey (57). In many cases, when Oprah speaks, we listen. So what is her advice as it relates to staying youthful? She believes that healthy hair is a great way to stay looking young. She says that one way to keep your locks in good shape is to keep the styling tools to a minimum. She wears a low-maintenance style like a ponytail at least 2-3 times per week so that her hair can handle the blow-drying and flat-ironing that she does for her public events and outings.
Salma Hayek (45). There are very few women in Hollywood with natural stunning beauty as actress Salma Hayek—a woman who is one to reckon with at any age! And while a lot of us have probably surrendered to the fact that her genetics plays a significant role in her appearance, she credits something else. According to Hayek, one of the best things that a woman can do to slow down the aging process is not based on how she looks, but how she smells. She says that smelling nice should be a priority, even when you’re by yourself. There may be something to that. The Huffington Post did an article last May about the fact that you can actually tell a person’s age by how they smell. Timeless scents, however, include jasmine, vanilla and lavender.
Kim Cattrall (55). While some people fight aging by having Botox treatments or trying something innovative like a telomerase supplement, actress Kim Cattrall says that she fights aging by giving her face the day off. If she’s not working, she uses very little make-up (although she goes nowhere without her eyelash curler). And whether she’s in front of a camera or not, sunscreen is a foundational must. That’s something we all should remember to use so that we can delay our own signs of aging for sure!
