Target’s New Swimwear Campaign Features Real Women

Swimsuit shopping can put the fear into even the most confident of shoppers.

Whether you are the proud owner of killer curves or have an altogether more athletic frame choosing the right swimwear to flatter your figure can be extremely difficult. One way of choosing the perfect style for you would be to look into custom one piece bathing suits that are created for your specific shape.

You may also consider enlisting the help of a personal shopper or stylist that could make finding the right style for your body shape that much easier. However, if you feel that you’d rather go it alone, then we’re here to help. Below are some simple points that should help you to find the perfect swimsuit for your shape.

    • Athletic Frame
    • Curvy
    • Large Bust
    • Small Bust

Which Swimwear Style Suits Your Shape?

Pear Shape

Ladies with a pear shaped body are often wider at the hips with a narrow upper torso.

Due to the narrowest point of the body being the upper torso you should be aiming to draw attention to areas such as the shoulders, chest and ribcage depending on which of these areas you like the most. Off the shoulder type styles are great for drawing attention to the shoulders and décolletage.

You may also want to try experimenting with swimwear that features a cut out detail around or under the bust as this will also draw the eye to the upper part of the body. If you prefer a more traditional style two piece bikini then look for sets that have a detailed top paired with a plain bottom as this will also keep all of the focus on your smaller top half.

Athletic Frame

You may think that ladies with an athletic figure can suit almost any swimsuit.

However, if you have a leaner build you may desire to create the illusion of curves. The look of a shapely figure can be achieved by finding swimwear pieces that feature ruffles, tassels, fringing and heavy embellishment. Tops with a large, bold print can also be all that’s needed to enhance your womanly form.

When looking for bottoms you may find that choosing a style that fits more snuggly will make your derrière look considerably bigger. Bottoms with a tie at each side tend to work best as they can be easily adjusted in order to fit your slender frame.

Curvy

If you are lucky enough to have a curvy figure then the aim of the game is to accentuate these womanly curves as much as possible. Choose styles that provide your body with support in areas such as the waist, hips, bust and butt whilst also providing the correct amount of coverage. Swimwear that features thicker straps and high waistlines can help make sure that everything stays in place whilst drawing attention to your waist.

Color blocking is also a great tool for drawing the eye towards your favourite areas.

If you are trying to make your body look less curvy, try to avoid choosing styles that have thin straps or tie detailing at the hips. These styles could draw the focus to the widest areas of your body and tend to provide less support than a full brief or halter neck style.

Large Bust

If you’re the proud owner of a full bust then your key aim is to find styles that offer maximum support. Look of for tops that have strong underwire, thicker adjustable straps or moulded cups. If you’re looking to keep the attention off your assets than avoid tops that feature striking prints or details such as ruffles and embellishment.

Small Bust

If the smallest area of your body is your chest, you’re able to opt for swimwear that requires very little support and coverage. Strapless tops such as bandeau styles can help draw attention to your small bust. If you’re looking to make your bust appear larger then opt for styles that feature bold prints. You can also achieve the look of a fuller chest by investing in styles that have padding or a push-up detail.

Different styles and cuts of bathers can really change how your unique proportions look and draw attention to different areas of the body. Hopefully, the simple tips listed above will make your next swimwear shopping experience simple!
