Visiting a new city often means getting to see the top tourist attractions. So naturally, my first trip to see my sister-in-law in San Diego had a long list of must-see places – The San Diego Zoo, Petco Park (huge sports fan), Coronado Island, Balboa Park, all the awesome foodie destinations I had scoped out beforehand, and so much more.
But visiting a family member – especially one with toddler triplets – can mean also helping out with the mundane. including trips to the grocery store, some babysitting, and errands.
My sister-in-law needed me to be her kid wrangler while she went on her appointment to get her eyebrows done. Needless to say I wasn’t overjoyed. But she was. She had long ago booked this appointment to get her brows microbladed and as a busy mom of three girls she really needed something to make herself feel prettier and just do something for herself.
I wondered why her eyebrows. Why not a great haircut or a day at the spa? She told me she felt haggard and rundown and wanted something that would actually be transformative. I wasn’t getting it. But then again, I had not spent three years chasing a pack of girls, working and spending 24×7 maintaining a household.
Well, my sister-in-law returned from her microblading appointment looking years younger and like she had an en eyelift but without the surgery. I never knew how important and what a difference the right shaping and attention to detail of eyebrows can make to your face. The difference was noticeable, amazing and yes, she was right – transformative.
I was surprised to learn how affordable the cost of microblading is – especially since it’s a semi permanent tattoo and requires very little upkeep. It’s the gift that keeps giving.
Over the course of the next few days, I found myself continually staring at my sister-in-law and thinking how great she looked. I ended up booking my own appointment to fill in my sparse brows.
When I returned to home, all my friends kept commenting on how refreshed, rested and great I looked. They all noted that clearly taking some time off was working for me. I told all of them that my first trip to San Diego really agreed with me and was transformative.
