Laser eye surgery has become more and more popular in recent years, due to our ever growing vanity and hatred of NHS glasses! Although companies such as Specsavers have obtained high class fashion Guru’s such as the beautiful Gok Wan to endorse his own glasses range, it does seem the way that Glasses are very much on the decline.
Such high flying celebrities such as the Golf legend Tiger Woods, Pop Star Jessica Simpson, Friends star Courtney Cox, Singer Michael Bolton, Actor Drew Carey, Pianist John Tesh, and American Football star Troy Aikman have all gone under the knife and took the plunge into having laser eye surgery. It made sense for these people as they obviously need to have perfect sight, but also (not saying that glasses don’t look good) also need to look good at all times, as glasses are not always practical.
For us average Joe’s not on Hollywood’s A-list, laser eye surgery was something that seemed unattainable or something you only heard of your Grandma getting due to cataract problems. But with companies becoming more numerous, the high class treatment for those broken eyes is now a lot more readily available on most high streets and is available on price plans for most customers. Prices range from around £300-£500 per eye depending where you go, with most places offering a payment break for a year or monthly installments as payment for your surgery. Which initially does sound a lot, but when you look at how much the average person with eye sight problems spends on glasses, contacts, solutions, cases, checkups, and insurance it actually works out better on the pocket when looking at the savings over all. Not to mention the lack of hassle, that comes with just waking up and being able to see perfectly…oh the dream!
The entire procedure takes no more than a few hours and no general aesthetic or pesky over night hospital stays are needed. A mild sedative is given to the patient a couple of hours before the surgery and a few drops of Valium are placed directly on the eye ball to numb the aware. You are awake and able to move all through the surgery as the doctor needs to see how your eye is responding to light and the treatment. So you have little to worry about in regards to the operation and no horrid scars to look at when your surgeries complete.
For people with perfect 20-20 vision they obviously won’t appreciate what laser eye surgery has given to so many people. As I said earlier, glasses can suit some people, but often people feel geeky, frumpy, and just plain unattractive when you have to wear them all the time. Although contacts eliminate this, they can often lead to eye infections, as you’re touching your eyes quite a lot and there’s often the danger of falling asleep with them in, that can lead to damaging your eyesight even further! So all in all, laser eye surgery is beneficial in many areas, which is why it has gained so much popularity amongst celebrities and the general public alike.
