That said, letâs take a closer look at the celebrities who have launched their personal champagne brands.
In This Post:
Jay-Z / Shawn Carter
The story behind how Jay-Z fell into the world of champagne is an unconventional one, if not somewhat amusing.
Armand de Brignac
But letâs start with the champagne first. In 2000 the Cattiers found it to be a good idea to produce the worldâs most expensive champagne bottle.
They named it De Brignac â a tribute to the mother of Jean-Jacques Cattier, Nelly Cattier, back in the 1950s. Nelly Cattier found the name in a novel she read and thought it was nice enough to register for future use. And so, around 50 years later, the champagne called Armand de Brignac was born.
Now to Jay-Z.
Before his partnership with Armand de Brignac, it was another champagne that regularly appeared in Jay-Zâs music videos, and that of other rappers and hip hop artists as well. This champagne is the world-famous Louis Roedererâs Cristal, with regular appearances in many notable artistsâ music videos and lyrics.
During an interview with Cristal’s Manager Frederic Rouzaud, he said some things that would forever strain his relationship with Jay-Z for good. The interviewer asked him why he thought Cristal was so popular among celebrities. His response was: âWhat can we do?â We canât forbid people from buying it.â Jay-Z and other rappers were furious upon hearing this and called for a boycott for Cristalâs wines.
And as Jay-Z searched for new partners, that was when he discovered Armand de Brignac, also known as Ace of Spades. He liked it and decided that this luxurious champagne will be his new liquor of choice. In 2006, Armand de Brignac appeared in Jay-Zâs music videos. Later on, word came out that Jay-Z acquired the brand. Rumour had it that he financially backed it during release – but many of these are baseless for the most part.
50 Cent / Curtis James Jackson III
Dubbed the champagne âfor winners onlyâ, 50 Cent released this champagne that comes with a gold-plated cross that resembles a kingâs chess piece. Extracted and fermented from black grapes straight from Champagne, this expensive and luxurious champagne will amount to at least $300 per bottle and up to $1,000.
There are three different types of champagne under 50 Centâs name:
1. Blanc de Blancs (Green Bottle)
Made from 100% Chardonnay sourced from top growers in the Montagne de Reims and CÎte de Blancs regions of Champagne, this strong and elegant champagne graces tables. Aged for over 10 years, this wine brings out a complex flavour with notes of toasted brioché, Meyer lemons, creamy pineapple.
2. Brut (Gold Bottle)
This lively champagne is grown from the vineyards of Champagne and aged for four years after pressing. On the tongue, it comes with a burst of strong flavours: Stone fruit, toasted brioche, bay leaf, and white cherries. The crisp finish has a refreshing mouthfeel with subtle notes of citrus and minerals.
3. Rosé (Orange Bottle)
RosĂ© is a crisp and smooth champagne with notes of strawberries, and black currants that delight the palate. Much like the others, itâs grown with the finest grapes of Champagne. The delicate and small bubbles provide an elegant mouthfeel that provides a crisp finish with every sip.
This selection produced and launched by Champagne Castelnau and 50 Cent are sure to liven up any party with brilliance.
Roger Daltrey
If youâre a rock music and The Who fan, Roger Daltrey launched a bottle of limited-edition champagne produced by Champagne Charles Orban.
Champagne Cuvée
To commemorate The Whoâs 50th Anniversary, Champagne Roger Daltrey is a blend of 40% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier. This champagne has aromatic citrus notes with hints of fudge. It comes strong with a complex flavour that pairs beautifully with savory foods.
