Most of us struggle with accepting the body we were gifted with. However, embracing our own bodies is a destination we must all get it somehow. Often, the best approach is to find clothes that compliment our current figure as we work toward achieving our own personal fitness goals. This goal not only helps us to embrace our bodies in the now but also helps us to have a positive attitude towards ourselves as we continue to make strides to improve our health and fitness.

Take Inventory

Take a good hard look in the mirror, not to criticize yourself but to observe the features that can be played up and enhanced as well as areas of your body that could use a little work. This is a step that should start from the top of your body and end at your feet. Do you have a long graceful neck? Are your eyes the most amazing shade of cerulean blue? Do you have miles of legs to die for? Your most attractive features should be accentuated.

Conversely, if you haven’t lost that last 10 pounds since baby Joey was born and still have a little extra weight in your midsection, downplay this area of your body. You can skillfully use clothes to put your best features forward and also strategically downplay and minimizes figure flaws. The positives will trump the negatives.

Take Action Piece by Piece

Once you’ve gotten an eyeful of your best and your less admirable features it’s time to go shopping. Your goal should be to buy a few pieces that can be mixed and matched to create a variety of different looks. Choose a few neutrals that can be paired with other pieces of clothing to create both casual and dressy looks. These should be core pieces. Think a classy pair of skinny leg black slacks or a basic black dress. Both pieces can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

Don’t Abandon Fitness

Don’t let your new found acceptance and love for your current body throw you off of your fitness routine. Keep going because aside from an improved figure you’ll also have better health. Embracing your body now just helps you to feel comfortable in your own skin and put your best foot forward regardless of the circumstances.

The road to self-acceptance can be difficult when you haven’t accepted your body in the here and now. Learning to accept your current body as you work toward your fitness goals will help you to put your best foot forward.
